I was expecting an interview on Austrian economics. So, that didn’t turn out that way. But, by the time he started pulling his pants down, I … What in (inaudible) is going on here? I ran out of the room.

  3. Patriot Says:

    RON PAUL FOR FREEDOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Bob Says:

It’s funny… most of Ron Paul’s supporters have no idea what libertarianism is. Meh.

  5. EHow Says:

What a dork. Grow a sense of humor.

  6. jesuschrysler Says:

Well he was watching Gone With The Wind so growing a sens of humour is outta question…

  7. Dodecadude Says:

He said “What the fun is going on”.

And he does have a sense of humor, were you not listening to his voice, he was taking the whole thing in a very good natured manner and laughing about it.

Too bad Ron didn’t take the Republican nomination, a vote for him would not have been a vote for the lessor of two evils. Instead I voted for Obama, I know, totally opposite of Ron on the spectrum, but rather have a man in control of his facilities who disagrees with me than one who is on the verge of senility who picked a dits like Palin to be his running mate. 8 Years of mindlessness in the white house was more than enough, thankyouverymuch.

  8. Booooooo Says:

    Booooooo

Ron Paul is some lame sauce

  9. Keith Says:

Bruno just wanted to stroke Ron’s paul

  10. aly Says:

actually he has no sense of humor he is saying that its not funny and basically that society as a whole is ignorant for being entertained by someone who is getting people who hold themselves at such a high standars look like complete jackasses ron paul only exists so low lifes have someone to look up to

  11. Pat Says:

Is that Chuck Zito asking the questions?

  12. William Says:

Oh no, people going to a movie they want to see? Free market at its worst…

  13. Ivy Shoots Says:

Dr Paul is being interviewed by Curtis Sliwa.

  14. Boner Says:

Ron Paul is a piece of shit.

  15. Mark Says:

Ron Paul is being a great sport about it. He’s so principled – even though he doesn’t share Sacha’s sense of humor, he still sticks up for his right to free speech and believes the production companies should not be so heavily taxed. That’s integrity.

  16. zach Says:

aly said:”society as a whole is ignorant for being entertained by someone who is getting people who hold themselves at such a high standars look like complete jackasses ron paul only exists so low lifes have someone to look up to”…
Ron Paul may not agree with what Sacha Baron Cohen did. He may say that it is a “shame” that our society will watch bruno. But unlike 99% of politicians, he understands that it is only his viewpoint and that the government should not be able to tell us what we can and can’t do. Ron Paul for President 2012!

  17. D Says:

Bob Barr is one thing, but tricking Ron Paul? Come on, that’s not cool.

  18. Tim Says:

I’ve had dinner with Ron Paul and he definitely has a sense of humor. He’s just pretty old and comes from a totally different generation and thinks different things are funny. I’m in my 20s and I’m sure I’ll find the movie to be great.

  19. Sara Says:

I’m not sure if Ron Paul knows what libertarian is either. Why else would he want to overturn Roe vs Wade?

  20. Mdavid Says:

    Austrian Economics? Really?

What the hell does Ron Paul know about Austrian economics? Why would he volunteer for such an interview on a topic he is clueless about? Answer: He is a media whore and will make an appearance even if the subject of discussion is out of his expertise.

Ron Paul’s Next Appearance: A round-table discussion on the benefits of vitamin enriched lubricants that are being tested on horses in northern Mozambique.

  21. Mark Says:

Mdavid – Austrian economics is the school of economics that Ron Paul follows. It’s just called Austrian economics because it was originated by people from Austria including Ludwig Von Mises and Carl Menger (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austrian_economics). He’s not talking about the economy of Austria.

  22. rydog Says:

    he says “What the fudge”

  23. rasier Says:

i love bruno and ron paul.

Mdavid, learn something about ron paul before you make comments like ron doesnt know anything about Austrian economics… because other than talking about protecting your civil liberties(and always voting that way) one of the other main talking points of his is about the economy and he always brings up austrian economics.

sara, ron wants to overturn Roe vs Wade because he thinks the federal gov shouldn’t have anything to do with abortion and it should be up to each state to vote on.. and after delivering over 4000 babies he believes that life starts once the child is conceived… and that people should pretty much be able to do whatever they want unless it will harm someone else.

ron is like 73… i wouldnt expect any 73 year to think sascha is funny.

  24. David Says:

I admire Ron’s integrity but in this day and age he may need to be a little less old fashioned to be electable. I am not saying he is wrong in what he said even though I find Sasha incredibly funny at times. Although he would be a great president, I don’t think a sex worshipping, drug using America is going to vote for a man they can’t relate to, much to their detriment may I add.

  25. john Says:

Borat was funny, Bruno on the other hand just looks like something a person entertained by dick and fart jokes would go watch.

  26. BonTaul Says:

MDavid, you’re a fucking retard. He’s not talking about Austria’s economy, you ignorant moron. He’s talking about the Austrian Theory of Economics. If you actually went to college or took a high school economics class, you’d know that.

  27. Thomas Says:

2 years ago we would have killed for this kind of exposure!!!

    Thank you Bruno!

  28. huck Says:

ha ha ha that was funny he took it well

  29. Bud Says:

Rep.Dr.Ron Paul is in a very serious business. And he is serious about it so that immature retards can continue to have the freedom to chose what they want to say, think, or watch. Seems to me that some of the ignorant retards who have decried this aspect of Ron Paul on this blog should grow up just a bit and acknowledge that Ron Paul is THE champion for what THEY believe in and take for granted. Not too many ignorant doofuses can do that. Admitedly, Dr. Paul’s sense of humor does not extend back to immaturity, so immature folks don’t recognize the value of either his wisdom, guts, or maturity.
As most all adults will have occasions to say about immature idiots, “Oh well, if I can protect them until they grow up, they will one day figure it out”. I pray (and work with Dr. Paul to insure) that their freedoms are still intact when they DO grow up, in spite of themselves.

  30. Liam Says:

    @David

The old fashioned man who who will end the federal drug war and remove all anti-sex laws doesnt appeal to young people? I would beg to differ :-)

  31. Nick Says:

ron paul is the only hope for america

  32. gigi Says:

Sound of Music & Gone with the Wind…?? really??? with world of Grisham & Clancy at his feet? what a homo…

  33. KidKlone Says:

I Do have to say that I think it was lame of Cohen to pull this on Ron Paul. Ron Paul is one of the last honest politicians that is truly working for the people, I was excited about this film, but now I will NOT see it.
    GO RON PAUL!

  34. AxelHeist Says:

Dropping your pants in front of a 72 yr-old man is funny? I suppose it could be if you are still in adolescence or if you are just a vulgar creep.

  35. Wisconsin, WI Says:

Ron Paul represents the limited amount of freedom we have left in this country. God bless him. Cohen is a funny guy, but in the end, one of these two will have left a greater legacy behind them.

I love funny films and I love Ron Paul.

  36. botzi Says:

    what ever

  37. Paul Says:

Why are people talking about politics or Obama? It was a typical spoof that he does. Simple as that. BTW FUCK OBAMA.

  38. coca Says:

OMG it was a joke! Sad the day when people forget to laugh, even laugh at ourselves. This dude is so uptight.

  39. Danny Says:

    Ron Paul is the man.

  40. MrObvious Says:

    FUCK Obama

  41. Jake Says:

To help break through the false left-right paradigm here.. FUCK Obama and FUCK Bush.

    Go Ron Paul!

  42. Joe G Says:

He had to leave the room quick when Bruno dropped his pants because he would have definitely gotten a visible erection. I’ll bet he doesn’t see much penis in his practice.

  43. Nick Says:

    He says “what in thunder.”

  44. Avi Marranazo Says:

Ron Paul is a man of principle and integrity. I dare say those words don’t come to mind when you think of Sacha Baron Cohen.

  45. Justin Says:

Sadly, this will be the first time some people have ever seen or heard of Ron Paul. Too bad they don’t realize he is the only honest politician they will probably ever see. I think it is very immature of people to criticize a 73 year old man for being a little shocked about being lured into an interview and then teased by a guy who drops his pants in front of him. Would this be something you would want done to your parents or grandparents? I know I would get a little mad if some guy lied to my father or grandfather into meeting with him and then dropped his pants in front of him on film and then put the scene in a movie. Its disrespectful.

Ron Paul wasn’t a smart choice for Cohen to pick on. Most of his supporters are the crowd he’s trying to appeal to. Because while Paul is older, his views are young and liberty appeals to all. I hope for his sake the rest of Dr. Paul’s supporters have a good sense of humor. But taking a shot like this at Ron Paul shows his lack of respect for libertarianism. Therefore, no more Cohen for me.

But maybe some good press will come to Dr. Paul from this, who knows.

  46. Randy Says:

I saw an advanced screening of Bruno. It was hysterically funny! Thanks to Ron for being a good sport. That scene was particularly funny!

  47. Michelle Says:

I saw this film tonight and thought it was okay. I was excited about the film, but that scene although a cleaver prank, made me sad about what I thought was going to be funny. I got this bad feeling in my chest and am impressed with the way Ron Paul handled the situation. I am completely for people having their own voices and opinions, but I didn’t find that in good taste at all. Still love Cohen’s characters, but Ron Paul still has my respect.

  48. Sasha B C Says:

Just saw the movie and am of two minds about it; liked some of the ideas tackled and both the humor and truths (which are often very related) that come out..

It seems that like Dr. Paul’s insight into how politics and economics can be approached with more humanity and less bias, you’ll either get Baron Cohen’s insightful approach to humanity’s social politics via his staged biases or not.

If you see it, you’ll likely get laugh(s) at some point(s) in the flick as we see both himself, ourselves and others in his characters in an even more exaggerated light than most of those we meet in our own day-to-day lives.

You’ll also likely be turned off and revolted by some of the rest which you don’t get or do but don’t want to. I’m also unsure as to why Ron Paul was chosen as a target, but maybe it’s just a matter of hit and miss with this kind of project of “planned spontaneity”. I’d say it’s a comedic miss, but yes, Dr. Paul is a good sport about it, considering, even though he does call him “queer”. (I hope he both laughed about it after and gets good press from it).

Beyond the shock comedy, this phrase is indicative of the underlying message, approach and result I see film critics debating – it sums up Paul’s truthful, reserved but firm rejection of the situation. The word seems appropriate considering its multiple interpretations (for further info see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queer).

Both of these men are (simply) indicative of the changes that are happening around us in our world (or at least in the West) – there’s no way a film like this would be made or topping the box office even a decade ago, there’s no way so many people would know about Dr. Paul and some of his ideas and accomplishments, there’s no way we would have had a Black President (love him or hate him), there’s no way they would have replaced a near identical scene of a LaToya Jackson interview with Paula Abdul (RIP Michael), there’s no way we’d debating reinstating an expanded definition of gender and marriage in California etc. etc.

    Austrian economics, eh? lol

Sara, do you have down syndrome? What in the world does killing babies have to do with liberty?

The right to keep and kill babies shall not be infringed?
