But now he and Chris Martin have collaborated on a single that MOCKS the efforts of Band Aid. WTF?!
Comic Sacha Baron Cohen has roped them in to record a single for his latest movie – all about his camp alter-ego, Bruno.
The film’s Dove of Peace track has already been part-recorded in the legendary Abbey Road Studios. Lyrics include: “For people of Africa who live in hell/ They will never wear Chanel.”
Our spy reveals: “Chris Martin was in stitches throughout the recording and only just managed to get his lines out.”
Sting and The Village People are also due to record lines for it this weekend. And Madonna and Sir Elton John are rumoured to be getting involved, too.
Sacha’s movie – full title (deep breath) Bruno: Delicious Journeys Through America for the Purpose of Making Heterosexual Male – is expected to be a hit on both sides of the Atlantic.
Our insider adds: “Bruno promises to be the funniest, most outrageous film of the year.
“In it, Sacha’s character releases a brilliantly cheesy but subversive single, Dove Of Peace, which mocks the likes of Band Aid. It runs close to the bone but it’s all very tongue-in-cheek, and he’s pulled in some top stars.
“Madonna worked with him for her cover of American Pie and he’s approached her to get involved. It’ll be quite a coup if he does. If the film’s a success, there is every chance the track will be released as a single.”
In his quest to become the, er, “most famous Austrian since Adolf Hitler”, Bruno has already caused quite a lot of chaos.
