As a public figure, Ron Paul is fair game for Bruno. Whether Dr. Paul deserves it is a separate issue. I agree with andj’s comment that Jews like Sasha Baron Cohen may dislike Ron Paul due to his non-interventionist policies.

Ironically, Ron Paul defends the very freedoms we take for granted in the U.S, like this hotel room stunt. Sasha Cohen would literally risk imprisonment and concentration camp in other countries. Indeed, under the Cuban regime, Castro has repressed gays and lesbians since 1959. Nine queer men were imprisoned this year by the Sengalese gov’t for gay acts. In 1935, the German government wrote in their criminal code that a male who “allows himself to be used by another male for a sex offense shall be punished with imprisonment.” By that criteria, Bruno and Eminem could possibly be jailed!

Bruno was funny to a point. But, Dr. Paul didn’t deserve that “bait and switch”. I felt bad for him. If the makers of the film had any respect they would have duped Rudy Giulioni, Sahah Palin or Nancy Pelosi.

How deliciously ironic. I was just writing in my blog recently that Ron Paul was the uncredited spiritual leader of the ‘Tea Party’ protests in America. You’ll remember the detractors (liberal media commentators) were dubbing it the “Tea Bagger protests”. And now the (“you might find this very hard to believe”) homosexual, Bruno is trying to seduce the Ron Paul.

Showing once again Sacha Baron Cohen is on top of the zeitgeist even before it’s written. Hilarious.
