In a five-minute scene, Bruno tries—and fails—to seduce the Texas congressman and former Republican presidential candidate in a Washington hotel room. The scene, filmed in early 2008, occurs about halfway through the movie, after Bruno gets the idea that you have to make a sex tape to become famous.
Cut to a nondescript hotel suite where Bruno sits across from Ron Paul. After a brief exchange of pleasantries, a light blows out on the set. Bruno apologizes for the technical difficulties and suggests that he and Paul wait in the other room while the crew fixes the light.
The other room, it turns out, is a bedroom. The lighting is low, and the film is now grainy—not unlike a sex tape—as it cuts to a hidden spy camera. There’s a spread of Champagne and strawberries and caviar on a table.
Bruno tells Paul to make himself comfortable. Paul sits down on the bed. Bruno turns on some music and starts dancing. Paul is visibly uneasy but doesn’t say anything at first. He picks up a newspaper and pretends to read it. “You can tell at each weird gay detail, he [chalks] it up to, This guy is European,” says one of the attendees.
Finally, Paul asks what’s going on. “Don’t worry about it, Dr. Paul,” says Bruno, who then unbuckles his belt and drops his pants. At that point, Paul snaps up and storms out of the room.
As Paul is walking away, you can hear him say, several times, something like, “This guy is a queer!” “The word queer comes out of his mouth three or four times,” says an attendee.
A spokeswoman for Paul confirmed that the episode took place but declined to provide details. “We don’t want it to distract from his message,” said press secretary Rachel Mills. “Now is the time when people need to be listening to him on economic issues.”
Mills, who was present at the taping, did elaborate on the “queer” line. “I heard him say ‘weird,’ ” she wrote in an e-mail. “In any case, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Queer as Folk … it’s not exactly a shocking term if that’s what he did say.”

Ali… that was flawless.

Love Cohen and love Paul. Cohen better have apologized to Dr. Paul after disrespecting him like that, though I doubt he’d mean it. Cohen’s funny, but Dr. Paul’s got serious stuff going on that affects many lives in a way Cohen will never know.
March 18th, 2009 at 4:17 pm
I don’t see how he disrespected him. It’s a joke. I’m a very strong Ron Paul supporter, and I also very much enjoy Sasha Baron Cohen’s work. I think it’ll be funny. Cohen probably could have found a more outrageous member of congress (Sen. Byrd probably would have committed career suicide) to put in that scene, as Dr. Paul is pretty good at thinking on his feet, but anyway… sounds like a funny scene. It is just a joke. Ron Paul handled it like a gentleman, so I don’t see how this could do any damage. It’ll just put him more into the public eye, which can’t be a bad thing IMO. Looking forward to seeing the film. Bruno is hilarious.
But yes: http://www.campaignforliberty.com if you give a toss about freedom.

Y did you go after Ron Paul? You should of gone after Rudi Guliano or someone else. Hopefully people will get to know Paul’s message of FREEDOM!

Ron Paul fans attacking!
March 30th, 2009 at 11:12 am
Well clearly Baron Cohen was going after the easiest of the presidential candidates. He likely had no idea that Ron Paul is in fact one of the most un-politician politicians in America, one who would fight for his right to make Bruno in its every detail, one who believe gay people should be treated equally under the law. I’m sure Ron Paul found it funny later, but I agree there were better targets of Baron Cohen’s schtick, especially since Ron Paul is so patently agreeable from both a free speech and gay rights standpoint!
March 30th, 2009 at 3:22 pm
Ron Paul is the man… I could see him playing along with it just to freak out Bruno. Gay chicken anyone?
Yay Ron Paul!!!
March 30th, 2009 at 7:40 pm
LMAO. Ron Paul was a moron. This shit is fucking hilarious
April 1st, 2009 at 12:49 am
Ron Paul is cool. Long live liberty!
April 2nd, 2009 at 11:58 pm
I just saw this scene at a screening of the movie in LA. It was amazing.
What’s up with all the ron supporters commenting in here? He’s a good guy, but fuck his libertarian bullshit
April 4th, 2009 at 9:20 am
Thought Ron Paul was supposed to be open for *all* rights…
April 4th, 2009 at 8:19 pm
Ron Paul is the only honest man in Washington D.C. I really hope this doesn’t effect him negatively. Hes got a mission to save America from its own politicians.
April 5th, 2009 at 2:00 pm
MS – of course he is for maximum personal liberty. But if someone dropped their pants in front of you and tried blocking your exit from the bedroom, how would you react. Let me guess “Thank you for the offer, fine sir, but I choose not to engage in anal intercourse with you today even though I respect your freedom to do so.” Nah, you’d call him a fucking faggot.
April 5th, 2009 at 7:53 pm
Ron Paul followers are pretty the most annoying people on Earth.
April 5th, 2009 at 9:07 pm
hahahaha i can’t fuckin’ wait to see this movie. i absolutely hate right-winged politicians preaching liberty and their idiotic, adolescent fans all have to defend a clueless “Man” whom they don’t even know personally! not only that, but politics, hell, FUCK POLITICS!! i hope this movie goes and destroys this bullshit culture we live in today known as America. keep going, Sacha, and don’t stop what you’re doing. Americans needs to see what they’ve become, and you’re doing it perfectly by giving us viewers the reality of it all.
April 6th, 2009 at 12:32 am
Oh boy, hope its funny but why Ron Paul, Huckabee and Romney would have been funnier. Saw the trailer though, it looks funny. Both of them are awesome though.
April 7th, 2009 at 4:06 pm
“Dr. Paul’s got serious stuff going on that affects many lives in a way Cohen will never know.”
I think Cohen is very well aware of US politics, including Ron Paul, and his positions. He has a degree in Civil Rights from Cambridge, and is obviously conscious of the American political system.
April 7th, 2009 at 8:25 pm
I like Bruno and I like Ron Paul. Should be hilarious. Nah I don’t think it will hurt Pauls image. In fact it will gain him more publicity!
Young Americans for Liberty, check it out if you value the Constitution and Freedom!

I love ron paul, I can’t wait to see the clip, but I hope it gives ron some more EXPOSURE… Although from what I hear it’s may not be the right kind of exposure..
Anyways I hope this helps Ron Paul, the only true anti-war presidential candidate, unlike Obama or McCain.
BTW , we’re STILL IN IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN

May 31st, 2009 at 12:11 pm
Tim, Bill Gates hates you so enjoy it while it lasts.
I agree Cohen should have picked a better target. Who gives a shit about his degree from Cambridge. They will not tell you about the Council on Foreign Relations, the Trilateral Commision or Bilbderberg there. Watch Ron Paul’s video from 1988 on the American Power Structure or Alex Jones’ End Game, then read “Shadows of Power” or “The True Story of the Bilderberg Group”. The United States is in for a very awful future if people don’t wake up. While the Federal Reserve remains in operation, David Rockefeller & Co. own every single one of us.
June 4th, 2009 at 8:49 pm
How deliciously ironic. I was just writing in my blog recently that Ron Paul was the uncredited spiritual leader of the ‘Tea Party’ protests in America. You’ll remember the detractors (liberal media commentators) were dubbing it the “Tea Bagger protests”. And now the (”you might find this very hard to believe”) homosexual, Bruno is trying to seduce the Ron Paul.
Showing once again Sacha Baron Cohen is on top of the zeitgeist even before it’s written. Hilarious.

Attn:Sacha Baron Cohen – Bruno – Borat – Ali G
One day you will get that ass kicked. You will go too far and get bitch slapped. Who will laugh then?
June 21st, 2009 at 8:11 pm
Yeah, everyone – campaign for liberty if you want strangers to ring your phone constantly bugging you about “issues” and begging for donations. Don’t trust CfL with ANY of your personal information.
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:42 pm
Let’s campaign for socialism where we can all work for Government Motors (GM) or as a mediocre public school teacher at $50.00 an hour putting bolts in fenders and making sock puppets (thanks unions) while the country goes even further bankrupt. By the way Ron would have ended the war by now. Go Ron Paul. Go Sacha. Liberty for all.
June 24th, 2009 at 7:11 pm
Im sure he didnt queer, hes too principled for that…
July 5th, 2009 at 3:36 pm
I’m a fan of Ron Paul, but I hate most of his supporters. Guys, take a deep breath and chill out. If you’re still all wound up about this, just repeat the mantra “there is no such thing as bad publicity.”
July 10th, 2009 at 4:57 am
Bruno was funny to a point. But, Dr. Paul didn’t deserve that “bait and switch”. I felt bad for him. If the makers of the film had any respect they would have duped Rudy Giulioni, Sahah Palin or Nancy Pelosi.
July 10th, 2009 at 6:21 am
All you RonPaul political whores can suck my dick. Uber-Bruno!
July 11th, 2009 at 8:54 am
As a public figure, Ron Paul is fair game for Bruno. Whether Dr. Paul deserves it is a separate issue. I agree with andj’s comment that Jews like Sasha Baron Cohen may dislike Ron Paul due to his non-interventionist policies.
Ironically, Ron Paul defends the very freedoms we take for granted in the U.S, like this hotel room stunt. Sasha Cohen would literally risk imprisonment and concentration camp in other countries. Indeed, under the Cuban regime, Castro has repressed gays and lesbians since 1959. Nine queer men were imprisoned this year by the Sengalese gov’t for gay acts. In 1935, the German government wrote in their criminal code that a male who “allows himself to be used by another male for a sex offense shall be punished with imprisonment.” By that criteria, Bruno and Eminem could possibly be jailed!
July 12th, 2009 at 8:46 pm
Funny shit! Love Ron Paul, small government, and civil liberties. I also love innocent guys getting duped into things. Everybody wins!
